Elon Musk says Tesla has made over 3 million cars!

Tesla has made over three million cars, CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday. Of that total, Tesla’s Shanghai factory has made one million cars, according to the tweet.

“Congrats Giga Shanghai on making millionth car! Total Teslas made now over 3M,” Musk tweeted.

Musk’s announcement comes after months of lockdowns and parts shortages in China that threatened Tesla’s vehicle production, and suggests that Tesla’s Shanghai factory is producing a significant number of new vehicles after opening in 2019 and subsequent years of investment.

The total vehicles achievement celebrated by Musk on Sunday comes after Tesla’s reported deliveries, the closest approximation for sales, have been rising in recent quarters. In July, Tesla said that it delivered 254,695 vehicles in the second quarter, a 26.5% rise year-over-year.

But the milestone also highlights how small Tesla is compared to automotive giants. For example, Toyota delivered over 10 million vehicles in 2021 alone. Tesla said earlier this year it plans to increase vehicle deliveries by 50% annually.

In addition to its Shanghai plant, Tesla produces cars at factories in Fremont, California; Austin, Texas; and near Berlin in Germany. Musk said in July that the Fremont factory, the company’s first, had made 2 million cars.

In June, Musk said he wanted to get the Shanghai plant “back in the saddle” and lamented that Tesla’s Berlin and Austin factories were “money furnaces” losing “billions of dollars” because of supply chain and production issues.

Tesla stock is down nearly 25% in 2022 as investors have been reassessing fast-growing companies in the face of inflation and macroeconomic concerns.

Musk sold over 7 million shares of Tesla last week worth about $6.88 billion as he is simultaneously tied up in litigation over his efforts to terminate an agreement to buy Twitter for $44 billion. - CNBC

Tesla Giga Shanghai made its 1,000,000th EV

Tesla China’s Gigafactory Shanghai made its millionth electric car bringing the total to over 3 million cars that Tesla has made.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the milestone on Twitter. The Tesla China team has been working tirelessly to produce and export Tesla’s best-selling vehicles.

A few days ago, Teslarati reported on the massive shipment of vehicles that Tesla was preparing to ship.

Photographs and videos were taken of the Shanghai South Port Terminal. Tesla China has been focusing on exports aligning with CEO Elon Musk’s plan for the Shanghai factory to be Tesla’s primary vehicle export hub.

During the Cyber Roundup, Elon Musk announced that Tesla had produced its 3 millionth car.

Tesla is also planning to achieve a 2 million vehicle run rate by the end of this year.

Tesla is already more than halfway there. Elon Musk said that Tesla achieved an annualized run rate of 1.5 million vehicles and credited the hard work of Tesla’s employees as the reason for its success.

“We’re aiming to achieve a 2 million vehicle run-rate by the end of the year. Thanks to the hard work of the Tesla team, we’ve already been able to achieve a 1.5 million unit annualized run rate.”

“And depending on how the rest of this year goes, I think we might get close to, or will get approximately at the 1.5 million mark, and will be exiting the year at a 2 million-unit run-rate.”

Tesla reached its 1 million car milestone in March 2020 and the Fremont factory manufactured its 2 millionth car in July 2022.

Now, less than a month later, Tesla has already produced its 3 millionth car and Giga Shanghai made its first millionth vehicle this month.

Each of these milestones was commemorated with a red Tesla. In 2020, Tesla marked its milestone with a red Model Y. At Fremont last month, Tesla marked the milestone with a red Model 3 Performance. Red is a great color for marking this milestone. - teslarati

According to a Friday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, George Soros increased his investments in several tech stocks.

The Soros Fund Management opened a new position in Tesla with a total of 29,883 shares worth over $20 million.

The management fund also added investments in Ford, Uber, and Twitter while adding to existing states in Lucid and Nio.

Earlier this year, Soros sold his 1.26 million shares in General Motors.

His decision to buy a new $20 million stake in Tesla’s stock comes just after Tesla’s shareholders voted in favor of a 3:1 stock split which will take place on August 25.

Along with Tesla, the fund sold cut back, and also invested in various electric vehicle stocks this year.

He held 8 million shares of Protera in Q1 2022 but currently holds 2.82 million. In Q1, he liquidated his shares in Fisker and Li-Cycle, which is a lithium-ion recycling company.

Tesla Discloses Lobbying Effort to Set Up Factory in Canada

Tesla Inc is lobbying the Ontario government as part of an effort to set up an “advanced manufacturing facility" in Canada, a filing by the electric-vehicle maker to the province’s Office of the Integrity Commissioner showed.

The company’s Canadian unit is working with the government to “identify opportunities for industrial facility permitting reforms", the amended filing from July 18 said.

Tesla as well as the office of Ontario’s minister for economic development, job creation, and trade did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Canadian Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne had said in May there were “very active discussions with a number of players" to develop an EV supply chain in Canada.

He said the company “might be able" to announce a new factory later this year and it could ultimately have 10-12 Giga factories. Tesla manufactures vehicles from two factories in the United States and one each in Germany and China.

U.S. electric-vehicle makers are also looking to source materials and build cars closer home to diversify supply chains and lower their dependence on China, the world’s largest supplier of EV batteries.

Such efforts could gain pace from a $430-billion bill approved on Sunday by the U.S. Senate that restricts automakers from using Chinese-made materials by phasing in required percentages of North American-sourced battery components.

After 2023, vehicles with batteries that have Chinese parts could not receive the credit, while critical minerals also face limitations on sourcing. - news18

Tesla teases the arrival of new energy products this year

When we think of Tesla, we can quickly forget that the firm is also very successful in the storage and production of renewable energy.

During the last quarter, the solar division, in particular, posted excellent results in the United States.

Tesla improves the profitability of this section thanks to a better, more adapted offer.

As a result, the firm is putting energy back into this division. And according to internal documents spotted by Electrek, new products are coming by the end of the year.

Tesla Energy will launch ambitious new products by the end of 2022

In the document in question Tesla explains, over the past two years, to have improved its offer of products dedicated to energy.

The manufacturer has therefore moved from a mix of equipment supplied by third-party companies to its own equipment, equipped with an in-house software layer.

The opportunity for Seth Winger, engineering manager of the solar division at Tesla, to launch new next-generation Tesla Energy products by the end of 2022. For the time being, it is impossible to know more.

But Seth Winger still clarified: “In 2022 we are investing massively in Tesla products. I can’t say exactly what happens because we want to maintain confidentiality, but these novelties concern photovoltaics, Solar Roof and Powerwall”.

The official nevertheless indicated that “pilot programs” would soon be launched.

We know in particular that Tesla is testing a new version of the Solar Roof (v3.5) with certain employees.

But according to Electrek, the upcoming novelty would embody a much more ambitious change.

Another new feature to come: Solar Roof customers will have a new, more visual purchase path, including the ability to interactively place solar panels on a plan of the roof of your home. This feature in the purchase journey is less anecdotal than one might think.

Tesla indeed expects a 20% reduction in changes after obtaining the building permit, a 30% reduction in refusals, and overall a 10% reduction in processing times. - gearrice
